Text: Dusted off my dm hat and ran some troika for the friday night crew! I think everybody had fun. I did! We played Findlay's Lamp Emporium from dungeoncontest.com 2k24. I didn't run combat hard enough. They smoked the imps. And also avoided a ton of combat through cleverness and etiquette. But i think that was okay. We had Po the Rhino-Man, Miss Smith-Smith the wizard of the academy of doors, a thaumaturge, Basil the Yongardy Lawyer, and Lil Dicky Charles a fellow of the sublime society of beef steaks. Miss Smith-Smith got so into it she made a little paper door that she tied to her forhead with some twine. And she also fashioned a paper horn for the Rhino-Man to wear. The Yongardy Lawyer went to the garage and got a hammer as a prop stand-in for his warhammer. The thaumaturge cast Assume Shape and became a broken lamp; the gang insisted Belvedere honor the contract of sale and repair it. Miss Smith-Smith Assumed the Shape of a delivery of toilet paper and was carried directly up the top floor of the shop, Belvedere's infernal inner sanctum. Rhino-Man spent the entire game insisting that she *walked* and did not *charge* anywhere. Only to finally charge the BBEG and gore him with her horn. Defeated in physical combat, Belvedere challenged the crew to a fiendish game of ROLL AND DRAW SPIDERS, which the thaumaturge narrowly won for the team, contractually banishing B. back to hell. Used the Wizards Tarot as the initiative stack which was fun. Lil Dicky never drew a card, not even once! Such is troika sometimes.

Gutierrez sides with a parent bully and nearly fires Cary for defying them, and is basically shutting them out and having a whole tantrum about it. Nif and Helios go out to dinner and come out as married to Nif's parents. They don't mind, but DO mind Nif's "alternative lifestyle." Janus and Pria go on an ice cream date? Janus gets her cards read and gets friend zoned. (Appropriately. Her feelings are all over the place.) Callie and Cam have a sesh and Cam is kind of mom-sidesy until they snap out of it. Just like Gootz was… Nif and Callie healed up Janus and Cary. Janus declares her love for Cary.

+ Cary and Janus are in loooove. Boom it's time for the BIG FINISH down at the shore. Lykos does a murder on a crystal lion and rips Blacktail out of Oneiros. Cronos flashbacks to get Agatha Vogel. Verdade friendships Blacktail. Lykos tries to absorb Oneiros, but O. absorbs them! Cronos destroys the timeline to save Lykos, and now they are rivals and were never in love. At least, Cary is not in love with Janus. Janus remembers. BIG SAD! Concordia forgives Onerios to DEATH leaving only fear. The tower breaks apart. EPILOGUE: callie moves in with camryn. Nif is a scientist and makes babies. Janus is melancholy. Cary disappears.

Text: My grandmother died today. So I ran a game of Honey Heist for my brother and my dad.

+ Neither of them had ever played a tabletop game before. This was their first.

+ Dad played an unhinged panda driver in a flat cap named Peter Panda. Brother played a slick honey badger hacker named Rodney Roger.

+ To ease them into the game I had them each come up with a trivial complication for the other, and then roleplay overcoming that obstacle on their way to the Bear Criminal Hideout. Peter Panda's shoelace broke trying to leave the house, so he just tossed the shoe and struck out on foot, one shoe off and one shoe on. This made him very easy to track later. Rodney Roger got stuck behind a slow moving tractor on a small two-lane rural highway. This infuriated him so he pulled up alongside to bite him, but the farmer had heard of bear activity on this road and he was packing bear mace and he maced him.

+ They successfully infiltrated the 2017 HONEYCON convention in a spooky fishing village. It was being funded and hosted entirely by Preston Landon, annoying trust fund kid who made his millions daytrading honey futures.

+ I asked them to help me Paint The Scene (a la Brindlewood Bay) upon arriving in the village to figure out what makes it so spooky. Rodney Roger noticed there were fish skeletons hanging everywhere. Peter Panda noticed there was no bamboo anywhere. But he did notice some fishermen down by the water fishing with bamboo-like poles. So he mauled them and shoved them in the water and stole their poles to chew on.

+ They arrived on site and staked it out. Earl the night guard eventually got relieved by Dale the day guard. Peter Panda joined up a couple of bear cosplayers and did panda antics that were so cute that it distracted everybody enough for Rodney Ranger to sneak inside.

+ Rodney made it through the honey vendor village, the honey exhibit hall, and the honey speakers and panels to the backstage area where they found the grand prize: Abraham Lincoln's personal beehives. But just then, Blamo! He got elbowed in the side of the neck by the ghost of Abraham Lincoln. They wrastled.

+ Back outside, the three mauled fishermen show up in bandages and slings to get vengeance on Peter Panda. The security guard and half the crowd join the angry fishermen, and half the crowd joins the bear cosplayers to protect Peter Panda. And chaos ensues!

+ Inside, Rodney Roger bites the ghost of Abraham Lincoln to paint him red because (Honey Heist logic) bees HATE the color red. Then he opens up the hives and the bees attack him. Rodney Roger grabs the beehives and runs!

+ Outside, the bears meet up and Peter Panda hotwires a 1972 Buick LeSabre convertible. As they drive off into the sunset, the REAL ghost of Abraham Lincoln pops out of the beehive and is like, Hey guys where we going??

Text: First game of 2025! Since December 20. Can you believe it? More importantly, it's Lyrmwithmas! A sensational time was had by all. Kat gave everybody D&D Forever Stamps they found. Charlie made a flaming chocolate tower cake. I distributed the Lyrmwithmas zines I made. Mike made a great dinner of Dragon Noodles and Blue Sushi. It was fantastic!

+ And the game was good too! We got to celebrate Lyrmwithmas in game with festival games and drinks and toasts and celebrations. And then we got spirited away to a pocket dimension by Saverus who showed us each one of us our past, and then a choice, and then bestowed us each an epic boon based on our path. Vengence/justice for Jolly, transformation for Dakka, control for Lucia, stealth for Diablo, and rebirth for Darra. Then as a group we gained the ability to proxy each other using a skill, ability, or spell slot once a day. Some of the best roleplay / writing from our DM ever.

Text: The Goofs went to a graveyard and fought some undead creatures! You'd think that bringing a paladin, a circle of stars druid, and an aasimar sorcerer, all with divine attacks, to a graveyard fight would mean a bit of a cakewalk. But you'd be wrong. It was toe to toe very hard. Lux had her strength dropped to THREE by some shadows. The ghouls and ghasts wrecked us. But we eventually came out on top. I think I'm starting to get the hang of wild magic sorcery. It is very fun!

Text: Two shot playtest of Caped City Levi's 1940s noir detective / masked vigilante hack of The Between by The Gauntlet.

+ It was super fun! I played Tracy Gordon aka The Ghoul opposite Axel (The Pontiac), Oz (The Vermillion), and Detective Duck.

+ The city is being terrorized by the arsonist known as Dr. Inferno. But something's not quite right. First of all, Dr. Inferno is currently locked up at Blackgate Asylum for the Criminally Insane. The vigilantes start the day phase trying to wrangle clues and manage their daily obligations. By the time night falls and their masks come on, they've put enough pieces to theorize: Billy the taxi driver is a former Goldstar Chemicals employee and would-be whistleblower who ended up being the fall guy and going to jail when an experimental new Goldstar product killed a young family. In prison Billy met the original Dr. Inferno and learned enough to exact his revenge on Goldstar upon getting out, burning their factories down one by one. The vigilantes corner Dr. In-faux-no in a factory he has just set on fire. The Pontiac focuses on evacuating all the employees while The Ghoul physically confronts Billy. Vermillion finds evidence exposing Goldstar and clearing Billy of the original crime. Too late for total redemption though; too bad he went and burned all those buildings down. Detective Duck shows up at the last minute and shoots Billy dead.

+ This was my first time playing a The Between game, so I missed some mechanics like picking out your xp questions at the beginning and some of the Faces things, and how the Unscene works for xp. But it was a lot of fun anyway! Can't wait for session 2!

<p>First game of 2025! Since December 20. Can you believe it? More importantly, it&rsquo;s Lyrmwithmas! A sensational time was had by all. Kat gave everybody D&amp;D Forever Stamps they found. Charlie made a flaming chocolate tower cake. I distributed the Lyrmwithmas zines I made. Mike made a great dinner of Dragon Noodles and Blue Sushi. It was fantastic!</p>
<p>And the game was good too! We got to celebrate Lyrmwithmas in game with festival games and drinks and toasts and celebrations. And then we got spirited away to a pocket dimension by Saverus who showed us each one of us our past, and then a choice, and then bestowed us each an epic boon based on our path. Vengence/justice for Jolly, transformation for Dakka, control for Lucia, stealth for Diablo, and rebirth for Darra. Then as a group we gained the ability to proxy each other using a skill, ability, or spell slot once a day. Some of the best roleplay / writing from our DM ever.</p>

<p>Dusted off my dm hat and ran some troika for the friday night crew! I think everybody had fun. I did! We played Findlay&rsquo;s Lamp Emporium from dungeoncontest.com 2k24. I didn&rsquo;t run combat hard enough. They smoked the imps. And also avoided a ton of combat through cleverness and etiquette. But i think that was okay. We had Po the Rhino-Man, Miss Smith-Smith the wizard of the academy of doors, a thaumaturge, Basil the Yongardy Lawyer, and Lil Dicky Charles a fellow of the sublime society of beef steaks. Miss Smith-Smith got so into it she made a little paper door that she tied to her forhead with some twine. And she also fashioned a paper horn for the Rhino-Man to wear. The Yongardy Lawyer went to the garage and got a hammer as a prop stand-in for his warhammer. The thaumaturge cast Assume Shape and became a broken lamp; the gang insisted Belvedere honor the contract of sale and repair it. Miss Smith-Smith Assumed the Shape of a delivery of toilet paper and was carried directly up the top floor of the shop, Belvedere&rsquo;s infernal inner sanctum. Rhino-Man spent the entire game insisting that she <em>walked</em> and did not <em>charge</em> anywhere. Only to finally charge the BBEG and gore him with her horn. Defeated in physical combat, Belvedere challenged the crew to a fiendish game of ROLL AND DRAW SPIDERS, which the thaumaturge narrowly won for the team, contractually banishing B. back to hell. Used the Wizards Tarot as the initiative stack which was fun. Lil Dicky never drew a card, not even once! Such is troika sometimes.</p>

<p>My grandmother died today. So I ran a game of Honey Heist for my brother and my dad.</p>
<p>Neither of them had ever played a tabletop game before. This was their first.</p>
<p>Dad played an unhinged panda driver in a flat cap named Peter Panda. Brother played a slick honey badger hacker named Rodney Roger.</p>
<p>To ease them into the game I had them each come up with a trivial complication for the other, and then roleplay overcoming that obstacle on their way to the Bear Criminal Hideout. Peter Panda&rsquo;s shoelace broke trying to leave the house, so he just tossed the shoe and struck out on foot, one shoe off and one shoe on. This made him very easy to track later. Rodney Roger got stuck behind a slow moving tractor on a small two-lane rural highway. This infuriated him so he pulled up alongside to bite him, but the farmer had heard of bear activity on this road and he was packing bear mace and he maced him.</p>
<p>And now they know how to play Honey Heist.</p>
<p>They successfully infiltrated the 2017 HONEYCON convention in a spooky fishing village. It was being funded and hosted entirely by Preston Landon, annoying trust fund kid who made his millions daytrading honey futures.</p>
<p>I asked them to help me Paint The Scene (a la Brindlewood Bay) upon arriving in the village to figure out what makes it so spooky. Rodney Roger noticed there were fish skeletons hanging everywhere. Peter Panda noticed there was no bamboo anywhere. But he did notice some fishermen down by the water fishing with bamboo-like poles. So he mauled them and shoved them in the water and stole their poles to chew on.</p>
<p>They arrived on site and staked it out. Earl the night guard eventually got relieved by Dale the day guard. Peter Panda joined up a couple of bear cosplayers and did panda antics that were so cute that it distracted everybody enough for Rodney Ranger to sneak inside.</p>
<p>Rodney made it through the honey vendor village, the honey exhibit hall, and the honey speakers and panels to the backstage area where they found the grand prize: Abraham Lincoln&rsquo;s personal beehives. But just then, Blamo! He got elbowed in the side of the neck by the ghost of Abraham Lincoln. They wrastled.</p>
<p>Back outside, the three mauled fishermen show up in bandages and slings to get vengeance on Peter Panda. The security guard and half the crowd join the angry fishermen, and half the crowd joins the bear cosplayers to protect Peter Panda. And chaos ensues!</p>
<p>Inside, Rodney Roger bites the ghost of Abraham Lincoln to paint him red because (Honey Heist logic) bees HATE the color red. Then he opens up the hives and the bees attack him. Rodney Roger grabs the beehives and runs!</p>
<p>Outside, the bears meet up and Peter Panda hotwires a 1972 Buick LeSabre convertible. As they drive off into the sunset, the REAL ghost of Abraham Lincoln pops out of the beehive and is like, Hey guys where we going??</p>

<p>We had a lot of chuckles and it really lifted the mood, and my brother was very curious about ttrpgs afterwards. So this game&rsquo;s for you nana!</p>

You&rsquo;d think that bringing a paladin, a circle of stars druid, and an aasimar sorcerer, all with divine attacks, to a graveyard fight would mean a bit of a cakewalk. But you&rsquo;d be wrong. It was toe to toe very hard. Lux had her strength dropped to THREE by some shadows. The ghouls and ghasts wrecked us. But we eventually came out on top. I think I&rsquo;m starting to get the hang of wild magic sorcery. It is very fun!</p>

<p>Two shot playtest of Caped City Levi&rsquo;s 1940s noir detective / masked vigilante hack of The Between by The Gauntlet.</p>
<p>It was super fun! I played Tracy Gordon aka The Ghoul opposite Axel (The Pontiac), Oz (The Vermillion), and Detective Duck.</p>
<p>The city is being terrorized by the arsonist known as Dr. Inferno. But something&rsquo;s not quite right. First of all, Dr. Inferno is currently locked up at Blackgate Asylum for the Criminally Insane. The vigilantes start the day phase trying to wrangle clues and manage their daily obligations. By the time night falls and their masks come on, they&rsquo;ve put enough pieces to theorize: Billy the taxi driver is a former Goldstar Chemicals employee and would-be whistleblower who ended up being the fall guy and going to jail when an experimental new Goldstar product killed a young family. In prison Billy met the original Dr. Inferno and learned enough to exact his revenge on Goldstar upon getting out, burning their factories down one by one. The vigilantes corner Dr. In-faux-no in a factory he has just set on fire. The Pontiac focuses on evacuating all the employees while The Ghoul physically confronts Billy. Vermillion finds evidence exposing Goldstar and clearing Billy of the original crime. Too late for total redemption though; too bad he went and burned all those buildings down. Detective Duck shows up at the last minute and shoots Billy dead.</p>
<p>This was my first time playing a The Between game, so I missed some mechanics like picking out your xp questions at the beginning and some of the Faces things, and how the Unscene works for xp. But it was a lot of fun anyway! Can&rsquo;t wait for session 2!</p>

By the time night falls and their masks come on, they&rsquo;ve put enough pieces to theorize: Billy the taxi driver is a former Goldstar Chemicals employee and would-be whistleblower who ended up being the fall guy and going to jail when an experimental new Goldstar product killed a young family. In prison Billy met the original Dr. Inferno and learned enough to exact his revenge on Goldstar upon getting out, burning their factories down one by one. The vigilantes corner Dr. In-faux-no in a factory he has just set on fire. The Pontiac focuses on evacuating all the employees while The Ghoul physically confronts Billy. Vermillion finds evidence exposing Goldstar and clearing Billy of the original crime. Too late for total redemption though; too bad he went and burned all those buildings down. Detective Duck shows up at the last minute and shoots Billy dead.</p>
<p>This was my first time playing a The Between game, so I missed some mechanics like picking out your xp questions at the beginning and some of the Faces things, and how the Unscene works for xp. But it was a lot of fun anyway! Can&rsquo;t wait for session 2!</p>

<p>First session! Meet Lux Lamplighter, aasimar wild magic sorcerer. When Lux casts spells, Wild Magic sometimes leaks out. It doesn&rsquo;t feel good, and weird stuff happens. This is embarrassing for Lux. She crushes a lot.</p>

<p>The Goofs went to a graveyard and fought some undead creatures! You&rsquo;d think that bringing a paladin, a circle of stars druid, and an aasimar sorcerer, all with divine attacks, to a graveyard fight would mean a bit of a cakewalk. But you&rsquo;d be wrong. It was toe to toe very hard. Lux had her strength dropped to THREE by some shadows. The ghouls and ghasts wrecked us. But we eventually came out on top. I think I&rsquo;m starting to get the hang of wild magic sorcery. It is very fun!</p>
<h3 id="u112">2025-03-21 D&D: Tales of Athas<small><a href="#u112">#</a></small></h3>
<p>First game of 2025! Since December 20. Can you believe it? More importantly, it&rsquo;s Lyrmwithmas! A sensational time was had by all. Kat gave everybody D&amp;D Forever Stamps they found. Charlie made a flaming chocolate tower cake. I distributed the Lyrmwithmas zines I made. Mike made a great dinner of Dragon Noodles and Blue Sushi. It was fantastic!</p>
<p>And the game was good too! We got to celebrate Lyrmwithmas in game with festival games and drinks and toasts and celebrations. And then we got spirited away to a pocket dimension by Saverus who showed us each one of us our past, and then a choice, and then bestowed us each an epic boon based on our path. Vengence/justice for Jolly, transformation for Dakka, control for Lucia, stealth for Diablo, and rebirth for Darra. Then as a group we gained the ability to proxy each other using a skill, ability, or spell slot once a day. Some of the best roleplay / writing from our DM ever.</p>

<h3 id="u111">2025-03-06 Honey Heist: Honey Heist<small><a href="#u111">#</a></small></h3>
<p>My grandmother died today. So I ran a game of Honey Heist for my brother and my dad.</p>
<p>Neither of them had ever played a tabletop game before. This was their first.</p>
<p>Dad played an unhinged panda driver in a flat cap named Peter Panda. Brother played a slick honey badger hacker named Rodney Roger.</p>
<p>To ease them into the game I had them each come up with a trivial complication for the other, and then roleplay overcoming that obstacle on their way to the Bear Criminal Hideout. Peter Panda&rsquo;s shoelace broke trying to leave the house, so he just tossed the shoe and struck out on foot, one shoe off and one shoe on. This made him very easy to track later. Rodney Roger got stuck behind a slow moving tractor on a small two-lane rural highway. This infuriated him so he pulled up alongside to bite him, but the farmer had heard of bear activity on this road and he was packing bear mace and he maced him.</p>
<p>And now they know how to play Honey Heist.</p>
<p>They successfully infiltrated the 2017 HONEYCON convention in a spooky fishing village. It was being funded and hosted entirely by Preston Landon, annoying trust fund kid who made his millions daytrading honey futures.</p>
<p>I asked them to help me Paint The Scene (a la Brindlewood Bay) upon arriving in the village to figure out what makes it so spooky. Rodney Roger noticed there were fish skeletons hanging everywhere. Peter Panda noticed there was no bamboo anywhere. But he did notice some fishermen down by the water fishing with bamboo-like poles. So he mauled them and shoved them in the water and stole their poles to chew on.</p>
<p>They arrived on site and staked it out. Earl the night guard eventually got relieved by Dale the day guard. Peter Panda joined up a couple of bear cosplayers and did panda antics that were so cute that it distracted everybody enough for Rodney Ranger to sneak inside.</p>
<p>Rodney made it through the honey vendor village, the honey exhibit hall, and the honey speakers and panels to the backstage area where they found the grand prize: Abraham Lincoln&rsquo;s personal beehives. But just then, Blamo! He got elbowed in the side of the neck by the ghost of Abraham Lincoln. They wrastled.</p>
<p>Back outside, the three mauled fishermen show up in bandages and slings to get vengeance on Peter Panda. The security guard and half the crowd join the angry fishermen, and half the crowd joins the bear cosplayers to protect Peter Panda. And chaos ensues!</p>
<p>Inside, Rodney Roger bites the ghost of Abraham Lincoln to paint him red because (Honey Heist logic) bees HATE the color red. Then he opens up the hives and the bees attack him. Rodney Roger grabs the beehives and runs!</p>
<p>Outside, the bears meet up and Peter Panda hotwires a 1972 Buick LeSabre convertible. As they drive off into the sunset, the REAL ghost of Abraham Lincoln pops out of the beehive and is like, Hey guys where we going??</p>

<p>We had a lot of chuckles and it really lifted the mood, and my brother was very curious about ttrpgs afterwards. So this game&rsquo;s for you nana!</p>

<p>Season 1 wrap up! Absolutely devastating. Critical Emotional damage.</p>
<p>Cary and Janus are in loooove. Boom it&rsquo;s time for the BIG FINISH down at the shore. Lykos does a murder on a crystal lion and rips Blacktail out of Oneiros. Cronos flashbacks to get Agatha Vogel. Verdade friendships Blacktail. Lykos tries to absorb Oneiros, but O. absorbs them! Cronos destroys the timeline to save Lykos, and now they are rivals and were never in love. At least, Cary is not in love with Janus. Janus remembers. BIG SAD! Concordia forgives Onerios to DEATH leaving only fear. The tower breaks apart. EPILOGUE: callie moves in with camryn. Nif is a scientist and makes babies. Janus is melancholy. Cary disappears.</p>

<p>Cary and Corvis want to go to where the movies are made. Gutierrez sides with a parent bully and nearly fires Cary for defying them, and is basically shutting them out and having a whole tantrum about it. Nif and Helios go out to dinner and come out as married to Nif&rsquo;s parents. They don&rsquo;t mind, but DO mind Nif&rsquo;s &ldquo;alternative lifestyle.&rdquo; Janus and Pria go on an ice cream date? Janus gets her cards read and gets friend zoned. (Appropriately. Her feelings are all over the place.) Callie and Cam have a sesh and Cam is kind of mom-sidesy until they snap out of it. Just like Gootz was… Nif and Callie healed up Janus and Cary. Janus declares her love for Cary.</p>
