And then we got spirited away to a pocket dimension by Saverus who showed us each one of us our past, and then a choice, and then bestowed us each an epic boon based on our path. Vengence/justice for Jolly, transformation for Dakka, control for Lucia, stealth for Diablo, and rebirth for Darra. Then as a group we gained the ability to proxy each other using a skill, ability, or spell slot once a day. Some of the best roleplay / writing from our DM ever.

Lucia started a fire (because of course she did) and Diablo banished the floating eyeball to the Realm of Sand and Wind. A couple VPs showed up and were like, What the hell! and Jolly yelled, Fire! You idiots! And they ran for some sand. Finally, we ended up at a large iron-banded door (!)

+ + +At the iron door, a wave of crushing psionic energy presses on the minds of Lucia and Dakka. Jackie is stunned, quivering, clinging to the ceiling. When Darragh runs away to find a broom to scrape her off the ceiling, she runs into the dopplegangers, who start a scuffle. As we are sorting out of differences, the spectator creeps up from behind and turns Not-Lucia into stone and Not-Dakka into a pile dust and bones. Lucia flames the shit out of it and Jolly stabs the shit out of it while Dakka solves the door puzzle (Mop and Gun and Spyglass and Whistle and Wheel and Star) and Darragh fucks around in the supply closet and accidentally heals the aberration by throwing a couple unlabeled bottles at it which turn out to be healing potions. We finish the thing off. Team Doppleganger licks its wounds and mourns its losses and we venture into the room with Not-Jolly and Not-Darragh. Inside, the withered corpse of Captain Jerrik—who we have seen alive, hearty, and well in the last few days—is seated at its desk wearing a crown with a blazing blue carbuncle that is seeping tendrils of negative psionic energy. As it reaches out to us, Morgan envelops us in a protective bubble. Lucia knocks the crown askew with a well aimed catapulted ceramic piece, and Darragh knocks it the rest of the way off with her mop, rendering it inert. Lucia picks it up and puts it on, plunging us all into a mindscape crowded with voices.

In prison Billy met the original Dr. Inferno and learned enough to exact his revenge on Goldstar upon getting out, burning their factories down one by one. The vigilantes corner Dr. In-faux-no in a factory he has just set on fire. The Pontiac focuses on evacuating all the employees while The Ghoul physically confronts Billy. Vermillion finds evidence exposing Goldstar and clearing Billy of the original crime. Too late for total redemption though; too bad he went and burned all those buildings down. Detective Duck shows up at the last minute and shoots Billy dead.
This was my first time playing a The Between game, so I missed some mechanics like picking out your xp questions at the beginning and some of the Faces things, and how the Unscene works for xp. But it was a lot of fun anyway! Can’t wait for session 2!

+ +Had a lot of fun. Leaned into Tracy’s flower arrangement hobby to show the Ghoul’s more delicate side. Detective Duck was less cartoonishly violent this time, but still kind of slapstick, but also had some great monologues about justice and duty that really grounded them. Axel and Tracy had an awkward diner scene which was great, and then Pontiac later unintentionally outed himself to Ghoul on the rooftop. Oz got to bug the park during a birdwatching expedition he set up just for this task. Some really strong Paint The Scene moments from everybody. Levi did a good job pressing the characters and pushing them with complications. Just a really solid two sessions. I feel like everybody was starting to grow into their characters and that the characters were just starting to grow on the players. And now it’s over!

Brayden sneaks in the service entrance. Kayden gets Tilde the Begger to cause a commotion out front and walks in the front door. Raiden gondolas up to the loading dock and sinks, sends two workers to the bottom of the canal and walks in to meet Brayden. Meanwhile Jayden got a job at the local Sash bar and poisoned a bunch of Sashes, and then posed as a doctor to treat them and got invited in. Brayden stumbles across a cook and gets infatuated with her. Jayden locks a bunch of sashes in a sickroom instead of treating them, also locking off access to most of the toilets downstairs. The gang meets up and heads upstairs. Raiden commands a ghost to trash the last bathroom upstairs so the remaining Sashes take off looking for a toilet. The aidens interupt a Yellow Sash ritual with the amber amulet involving Tilde the Begger who they captured. Brayden lays down cover fire and the sashes all duck for cover, breaking the circle. Kayden supernaturally flits around whispering conspiracies in their ears until they start attacking each other. Jayden tends to Tilde. Raiden finds a ghost trapped in the amulet and ghost-hooks it out into a jar. A couple of Sashes shop up to block their exit, recognizing Jayden as the guy from the bar who served the yummy drinks all night and then poisoned them. Luckily Jayden had rigged up a trap the entryway behind himself, and the Sashes all get poison darts to the neck. The aidens leave a calling card and then abscond with Tilde and the now inert amulet, which they deliver to the bloodhawks.

+ +On the morning of the Corn Harvest Festival in Blue Harbor, Jermaine’s windmill has been overrun with snats (snake-rats), and delivery of cornmeal has come to a halt, making it impossible to meet the demand for tamales and other corn based treats. Luckily, Team BAMB (Bard Artificer Monk Barbarian) is on the case. Bard and Artificer pied-piper half the snats away, through town (starting a new Running of the Snats tradition), and to the tower of the corn wizard, who accepts the snats for his corn beast experiements. Meanwhile Monk and Barbarian try to smoke out the Giant Snats beneath the mill and discover that Jermaine’s brother Marlon, and his jealousy, was behind all the chaos. They broker an agreement between the brothers and return to town with a sack full of cornmeal, thus saving the festivities.

+ + +Fun sesh. Went searching for a special mushroom for Miss Linley and got ambushed by some yokario along the way. At the village saw sheep dragons and the cousins wrestled and bested both Broad Naldo and Winnith. Then found out that Linley had been treating Sumi, the spirit that gave Leon corruption. Sumi lashed out and we had to put her down to protect ourselves. Also Linley made us two inches tall and then the fishead coven restored us. Next up: taking Sumi to the western shore for a burial.
