+## 2025-09-06 ismatu gwendolyn: on money and "reality"
+
+i stumbled upon this youtube video essay yesterday.
+i'm having trouble describing it now,
+but it's written and presented with incredible lucidity and frankness.
+ismatu published both a written *and* video version,
+but their delivery in the video is too good to miss.
+
+ismatu says that "reality" is only that which we participate in.
+the primary vehicle for this idea is their teaching that
+american dollars are purely an imaginary concept,
+supposed to be a clean abstraction from the material world to the economic,
+but which are only so on the very surface.
+the thought that really stuck with me was:
+if money is made-up,
+and falls from the sky where the money-makers live,
+and can be created freely simply by saying so with the right authority...
+why should we ever struggle to hoard it?
+
+the "realities" of this world
+are nothing more than the thoughts we all agree to share.
+wake up; do not live to work,
+to fuel the capitalistic death machine
+with your stressors repressed in the name of feeling better.
+wake up; live now.
